Dimple inserts are used to indicate dropped crossings. The colours are used to show what tyoe of crossing. Red dimples are used for controlled crossing; yellow dimples are for uncontrolled crossings and grey dimples are for laying on tarmac to give a visual contrast. Raised stripe inserts are used to indicate steps. The colours are used to give a visual contrast as well as a physical guide for someone using a stick, or feeling with their feet. The yellow raised stripe is used normally, but when the step is on tarmac a grey raised strip should be used |
